Pinheiros Altos Golf Course located within the well-known Quinta do Lago estate, within the golfing world it is known as providing a mental challenge due to well placed hazards. Bordering the 18,300 hectares of Natural Park of Ria Formosa which provides a habitat for many species of birds and has much interesting vegetation.|Pinheiros Altos is a combination of 27 holes composed by three groups of 9 holes named Oliveiras (Olives), Pinheiros (Pines) and Sobreiros (Corks), respectively. This highly original and distinctive course possesses completely opposing characteristics. The original 18-hole course of Pinheiros Altos was well-known for its contrasting nines. While the first 9-hole are over rolling sandy undergrowth with gentle pine trees, the shorter second 9-hole runs through hills dotted with lakes that present the main obstacle for the golfers on this course.
Played the Olives & Pines courses, loved them. First time we’ve played Pinheiros Altos and we will return. Course and greens in great nick, staff very friendly and lunch menu varied and good quality
Excellent, the golf course was amazingly quiet so had a most enjoyable round
Great course and really friendly staff - highly recomended

Olives closed due to wet weather so moved to pines and corks, which are actually my preferred combination. Great conditioning. PA has always been consistently good and the range nearby makes it easy to prepare pre round. Nice lunch too, and very reasonably priced.
A hot day with a stiff breeze. We played the 2 best 9's, Olives and Pines. The course was in fine condition with fast fairways and moderate greens. The bunkers were a bit crusty on top due to the hot weather, but in the main played well. A nice course in a great setting.
Very friendly staff and good quality golf course

Had not played there for about 15 years ... liked the course . Condition a bit mixed some the fairways were very poor but the greens were superb better than most of the others we have played between November and now ... penina and Vila sol only ones better ...
We enjoyed Pineros Altus. Would rate it same as Vilamoura Laguna and slightly better than Pinhal and Millenium
Played Olives & Pines, 2 very contrasting 9s. Unfortunately Olives was very wet, in addition to the water hazards & the greens had been top-dressed & were very slow. Pines was much drier & greens lovely. Buggy was limited to the paths (not even a 90 degree rule. This is not good for players with medical problems who cannot walk 18 holes......…! We understand that wet conditions can prevail & they have to look after the course but they really should reduce the price of the buggy &/or the course fee to help compensate for poor course quality.
This course is a 27 hole complex but realistically there is only enough room for 18 holes. Therefore itis tricked up,with out of bounds on most holes and trees blocking the entrance to the middle of greens. The greens were'nt in great condition the day we played as they were sandy and slow. Overall I would not recommend this course. €102 green and €50 for a buggy I have played better municipal golf courses for a fraction of the price.
Excellent course , great value for money and very well organised
Good course well maintained.
1st class service Buggy was delivered to car really attentive and course played lovely

Excellent course challenging in parts
Great course & facility
1st nine on Corks was good condition but not the most interesting of the 3 9s - 2nd 9 on Olives was excellent - always love playing it
Olives are only ok , Pines are lovely and also Soleiros . Greens are fair and fairways are fine.
A solid test for all levels of ability with some interesting choices off the Tee and to the green. Course Tee’s and greens in good testing condition, however fairways need some attention. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful location. Course in good condition, all the players liked it. 50 Euros for a buggy is expensive compared to the Vale Do Lobo resort which is only 30 Euros.
Amazing course. We love it.
Beautiful course, but fairways go from bad to worse during play. Not very well cared for! Over all too expensive for the experience. Greens are mostly okay, tees bad
Very good course but the fairways need some attention in places. We as a group would return to play the course again.
Course was in good condition - good experience

Nice course and I enjoyed playing it. Some fairways are needing time to repair. For the good of the course I think it would be good to mark the bare areas as GUR and ask golfers to play their shot from adjacent grassy areas.
Considering the inclement weather recently including storm Emma and then Felix, the course was in excellent shape. Some wet patches in the fairways but new grass showing through every where after the recent heavy rain. The bunkers were in excellent condition and showed no sign of the recent storms. Excellent greens, a little slow perhaps. Good course.
Pinheiros Altos is a great course to play, three different nine hole loops that are challenging but shouldn't spoil your fun. Great service from Teetimes, as always. I use them every year and the service has always been brilliant
3 challenging sets of 9. Playing quick in the dry conditions. Greens quite quick so try and stay below the hole.. easier said than done.
Course was very good, staff friendly. Free range balls - great idea! BUT - 50 Euros for a buggy !!!!!!!

Not an easy nut fair C ourse. A pleasure to play.

Nice little course but the Bermuda grass on the tee boxes was tricky! Buggy handler also very impolite but overall a good day.
A good challenging course. The teeing grounds are undergoing some renovation but otherwise the course is in good condition despite the long hot dry summer.
Played pines and corks the course was in fabulous condition and deserves credit and a higher rating in the course guides for me some cracking holes incorporating multiple water hazards
Preferred lies and the course was heavily watered making some areas very boggy. The buggy was quite expensive for the basic variety
Is it possible to choose which nines you play ie We played Pines and olives this year and next year would like Pines and Corks *** TeeTimes reply: Dear Noel, unfortunately it isnt possible to choose. The course have a schedule to rotate them and sometimes can change depending on the conditions of each 9. Regards
Really liked Pinheiros altos, course was in good condition & staff in the pro shop were very friendly & helpful.
Overall a good experience. Course good, would have liked a choice on which course we played but it is the busy season. Was the most expensive buggy hire that we paid over 5 previous rounds and there was no ice in the cooler box!. Planned to have a meal following our game but they had stopped serving when we got back, Teed off at 13.30
Excellent course and in good condition. Soft in places due to amount of water that had been used but did not detract from the experience. As always - enjoyed playing this course.
Good course, staff were helpful and there are fabulous facility's, driving range practice putting green and a good 19th hole
nice course - quite tight. Didn't appreciate to being told to speed-up our play when there was no one behind us, spoilt our round.
A really nice course, three nines so depends which 2 nines you play. Olives and Pines consist in the main of the original 18. Olives has the par 3 island green. Great fun. The greens were medium speed but played well. Great practice facilities to start with.
Good, very busy
A good challenge. Never easy but interesting. Some holes are just difficult. But good fun with 3 different 9s to choose from. Give it a go. Great location.
Good golf course, overall golf course is in good condition with the only area needing some work being the fairways which can be quite patchy and bare in places
Really challenging course in very good condition. The breeze made it a challenging day, particularly the 8th hole on the ''olives'' course. A par 3 that has a totally island green. Play this and you will experience something like the 17th at Sawgrass! Really well organised day -- as always -- by Doug.
Nice course but fairways was in relativly poor conditions compared to the other golfcourses in the area
A relaxing round with not too many crowds, the condition of the course was good and the clubhouse and facilities are of a high standard.
Played on Sat 8 April with Chez Carlos Society, very friendly group as always, course in very good condition, greens putted well, 9's played Olives and Oaks. Water on Olives claimed a couple of balls, will be back to try and make amends.
Many thanks for arranging an alternative to Vila Sol, to give more of us a chance to play. Pineheiros Altos is one of the best courses on the Algarve. Very challenging, extremely well maintained and component, friendly staff. More of the same please!
Some fairways on the corks were in very poor condition

The course has a nice design. Mid-handicap players that are long, but less than straight, will find it difficult to score well because of the OB that lurks on many holes. Shorter/straight hitters will not be troubled. The fairways seemed to have scant grass, with little cushion, but I suppose that we can chalk that up to the cold winter and poor grass growth. Greens very large and tricky (lots of false slopes)--difficult to read. They were fast and of consistent pace, so quite fair. I would say that the greens were probably the best feature of this course. Roadways for the golf carts were not always good, with some significant unevenness in places. Hopefully these will soon be repaired. Bunkers were fair and good quality, with sufficient sand, well-raked, etc. This is not a good course for walking (for seniors, anyway), so cart rental should be recommended for the over 50 crowd.. In short, I would play the course again but would not consider this a course that I would want to frequently play. Perhaps 2-3 times per year at most.
Great day, good company and a fine course.
Welcoming club and in good condition especially after the rain. Played here before and it has improved.
I thought the tee boxes were not up to standard.
Great course in great conditions.
Great, helpful and a good course set up whichever 9holes you play
Greens a bit on the soft side resulting in footprint indents and bobbly surface etc

Reasonable venue and close to the hotel but the course seemed in poor condition overall. It was clearly the ''filler'' course on the tour. Probably wouldn't play it again.
We play the two nines Olives and Pines, each presenting different characteristics. The Olives , are the old back nine and are more flat, the wind has greater influence and have some holes where the water element come in to play . The eight hole, island par 3, that is between 100mt and 120mt depending on the position of the tee is a good choice for nearest the pin at any competion, and is also the golf course signature hole . Pines the original front nine where 4 new holes have been integrated and as its name indicates presents a more parkland course, plenty of pine trees , elevations , dog legs and also 3 lakes that protect 3 very tempting greens . the 4th a short par 5 , the 5th a long par 4 , stroke 1 and the 6th a par 5 reachable in 2 if you had a good tee shot . Signature hole , again a beautiful Par 3 over a valley to a McKenzie green . A great golf course very demanding and if you suceed to finish with 36 points on stabelford you pobrably have played your best golf .
Excellent course and value for money

Pinheiros Altos buggy paths and many areas require upgrading would not return
Pinheiros Altos is a nice golfcourse - the second nine was strenuous with trolley

Tee boxes (like many courses) in really poor condition
Helpful staff. Good food and service. Course in very good condition

First time most of us have played Pinheiros Altos and we enjoyed it very much and want to return again.
Chez Carlos Golf Society2012-06-04
Located within the Quinta Do Lago estate Pinheiros Altos is one of the finest golf courses in the Algarve and soon to celebrate its twentieth birthday. It was a team competition this week with two scores to count in teams of 3 over the Olives and Pines layout. The course was in great condition with lush green fairways and trademark fast greens. Commenting Dave Reaney (h/cap 13) ‘I’ve never played this course till today and really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to returning and playing the Corks next time’. The Nearest the Pin was as usual the island green hole 8th (Olives) with many balls taking a plunge into the surrounding waters. It’s an entertaining hole to play at any time. Our Society golf competitions in the Algarve are good fun and a great opportunity to meet old and new friends whilst sampling some of the best golf courses in Portugal. Afterwards we returned back to the Chez Carlos Bar & Restaurant and enjoyed impromptu fresh clams which were just purchased from a visiting local fisherman. Cooked in lemon butter accompanied by fresh bread they were delicious.

It was the turn to play the format of Pinheiros (Pines) and Sobreiros (Corks) with 24 players gathering midday beneath cloudy blue skies on the first tee. There was an ensemble of old and new members and guests playing today many of whose handicaps were mid-teens. The course was in good condition and the trademark fast greens in play even though they had been sanded. It was a calm three holes before the wind made itself felt as we moved into the more exposed part of the course at hole 4. Special mention must go to two members; one making an impressive eagle at the 435mts Par 5 6th hole (Pinheiros) and another a birdie at the 497mts Par 5 8th hole (Sobreiros).

Located between Quinta Do Lago and San Lorenzo the 27 holes at Pinheiros Altos (High Pines) is a firm favourite with many a golfer in the Algarve and home for many a celebrity and footballer. Today the Society took on the Sobreiros and Oliveiras loops. The fairways were brown but this was only the bermuda grass in its dormant stage in winter. Come the warmth of springtime it will be its usual blaze of green. If there was stimpmeter reading taken on the greens it would have surely read 12 – similar to Troia the other week. Anything topside and you had problems.
