Unfortunately some of the greens and parts of the fairways are in poor condition, possibly due to standing water following last years wild fires. The 3, 9 hole course Pines, Olives and Corks are maintained on a rotation, I managed to play all 3 over my four rounds. I enjoyed it as always and will revisit

We enjoyed our day on a difficult golf course at times. We did feel under pressure from the course marshal's who wanted us to play quicker. They said we had lost time on the group infront but they were a 2 ball to our 4 ball and teed off 20 minutes in front of is? Some of the fairways were a little bare in places.

Played Cork then Olive sets of 9. I enjoyed Cork which was interesting and in good condition. Olive was not interesting and the long par 5 followed by a long par 3 did not achieve anything. Also Olive was very slow. The island par 3 was the best hole, a birdie helps! But otherwise would not come back. I hear the other 9, Pines, is better. Staff were friendly and helpful but overall there are better courses in the area.

There are a few concerns. The staff was terrific to say the least. The condition of the course a disappointment. Surprised to see the cart paths so poorly maintained. The greens were not in any kind of shape compared to the other 5 courses we played. Fairways had lost of dead grass, compared to the others. I understand it is off season, but in comparison the courses was the poorest shape. The course is a very nice old course, conditions were a surprise.

Golf course was enjoyable and in good order. (Better than San Lorenzo played the previous day) No Marshall and 4 hole gap in front of group (3 ball) in front of us who didn’t let us (2 ball) through. Last 3 holes of olive course had decent carries over water so added an extra dimension. No one at buggy collection on our arrival and told by one of team in pro shop to take a particular buggy which he pointed to from the shop window upstairs ( was dirty from previous occupants so just took a different one) When I enquired about ice for the drinks box was told to get my own from bar upstairs.

That aside I enjoyed the course, it is scared in some places by the wild fires from early this year. The staff are friendly and helpful. See you next year ????

We played P.A. six times this year and we definitely won't play there next year!!! The layout is nice, the scenery is beautiful but we are fed up with their electric trolleys and the paved paths on the course. None of the e-trolleys runs for 18 holes. The paths are poorly maintained and broken. It is not only uncomfortable but dangerous to walk or ride across the paths. We had dry conditions and wonder what happens when it is wet.

That said, the greens were good, the staff very helpful and the courses quite and hence the round was quick. This resort does not compare with its more illustrious neighbours but then neither does the price!

Played the Cork and Pinheiros 9s after heavy rains the previous day and the fairways were in surprisingly good condition. The greens were a little fuzzy and slow and I assume that would be because of the weather the previous day and not being manicured as normal and a couple had some disease which took away a bit from the overall good condition of the course. Both 9s are a fair test of golf with some accessible holes for scoring and some that will test even the better lower handicaps. The course and restaurant staff were both very professional, courteous and quick to serve the customers which was appreciated. Definitely will look forward to playing here again.

Olives course could have been in better condition: 1 green was diseased, 2 greens had extensive amount of Goose droppings that could have been cleared, long par 5 fairway had some standing water. Pines was a lovely 9 holes, 1 tee being upgraded but rest of course a real pleasure to play. Clubhouse was magnificent with very friendly and helpful staff.

Played Olives & Pines, 2 very contrasting 9s. Unfortunately Olives was very wet, in addition to the water hazards & the greens had been top-dressed & were very slow. Pines was much drier & greens lovely. Buggy was limited to the paths (not even a 90 degree rule. This is not good for players with medical problems who cannot walk 18 holes......…! We understand that wet conditions can prevail & they have to look after the course but they really should reduce the price of the buggy &/or the course fee to help compensate for poor course quality.

This course is a 27 hole complex but realistically there is only enough room for 18 holes. Therefore itis tricked up,with out of bounds on most holes and trees blocking the entrance to the middle of greens. The greens were'nt in great condition the day we played as they were sandy and slow. Overall I would not recommend this course. €102 green and €50 for a buggy I have played better municipal golf courses for a fraction of the price.

Considering the inclement weather recently including storm Emma and then Felix, the course was in excellent shape. Some wet patches in the fairways but new grass showing through every where after the recent heavy rain. The bunkers were in excellent condition and showed no sign of the recent storms. Excellent greens, a little slow perhaps. Good course.

Was the most expensive buggy hire that we paid over 5 previous rounds and there was no ice in the cooler box!. The course has a nice design. Mid-handicap players that are long, but less than straight, will find it difficult to score well because of the OB that lurks on many holes. Shorter/straight hitters will not be troubled. The fairways seemed to have scant grass, with little cushion, but I suppose that we can chalk that up to the cold winter and poor grass growth. Greens very large and tricky (lots of false slopes)--difficult to read. They were fast and of consistent pace, so quite fair. I would say that the greens were probably the best feature of this course. Roadways for the golf carts were not always good, with some significant unevenness in places. Hopefully these will soon be repaired. Bunkers were fair and good quality, with sufficient sand, well-raked, etc. This is not a good course for walking (for seniors, anyway), so cart rental should be recommended for the over 50 crowd.. In short, I would play the course again but would not consider this a course that I would want to frequently play. Perhaps 2-3 times per year at most.

We play the two nines Olives and Pines, each presenting different characteristics. The Olives , are the old back nine and are more flat, the wind has greater influence and have some holes where the water element come in to play . The eight hole, island par 3, that is between 100mt and 120mt depending on the position of the tee is a good choice for nearest the pin at any competion, and is also the golf course signature hole . Pines the original front nine where 4 new holes have been integrated and as its name indicates presents a more parkland course, plenty of pine trees , elevations , dog legs and also 3 lakes that protect 3 very tempting greens . the 4th a short par 5 , the 5th a long par 4 , stroke 1 and the 6th a par 5 reachable in 2 if you had a good tee shot . Signature hole , again a beautiful Par 3 over a valley to a McKenzie green . A great golf course very demanding and if you suceed to finish with 36 points on stabelford you pobrably have played your best golf .

Located within the Quinta Do Lago estate Pinheiros Altos is one of the finest golf courses in the Algarve and soon to celebrate its twentieth birthday. It was a team competition this week with two scores to count in teams of 3 over the Olives and Pines layout. The course was in great condition with lush green fairways and trademark fast greens. Commenting Dave Reaney (h/cap 13) ‘I’ve never played this course till today and really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to returning and playing the Corks next time’. The Nearest the Pin was as usual the island green hole 8th (Olives) with many balls taking a plunge into the surrounding waters. It’s an entertaining hole to play at any time. Our Society golf competitions in the Algarve are good fun and a great opportunity to meet old and new friends whilst sampling some of the best golf courses in Portugal. Afterwards we returned back to the Chez Carlos Bar & Restaurant and enjoyed impromptu fresh clams which were just purchased from a visiting local fisherman. Cooked in lemon butter accompanied by fresh bread they were delicious.

It was the turn to play the format of Pinheiros (Pines) and Sobreiros (Corks) with 24 players gathering midday beneath cloudy blue skies on the first tee. There was an ensemble of old and new members and guests playing today many of whose handicaps were mid-teens. The course was in good condition and the trademark fast greens in play even though they had been sanded. It was a calm three holes before the wind made itself felt as we moved into the more exposed part of the course at hole 4. Special mention must go to two members; one making an impressive eagle at the 435mts Par 5 6th hole (Pinheiros) and another a birdie at the 497mts Par 5 8th hole (Sobreiros).

Located between Quinta Do Lago and San Lorenzo the 27 holes at Pinheiros Altos (High Pines) is a firm favourite with many a golfer in the Algarve and home for many a celebrity and footballer. Today the Society took on the Sobreiros and Oliveiras loops. The fairways were brown but this was only the bermuda grass in its dormant stage in winter. Come the warmth of springtime it will be its usual blaze of green. If there was stimpmeter reading taken on the greens it would have surely read 12 – similar to Troia the other week. Anything topside and you had problems.
