Victoria Golf Course,Vilamoura’s jewel, was the most ambitious golf project in Portugal and was aimed at being one of the best golf complexes in the whole of Europe. The Victoria Clube de Golfe is the fifth at Vilamoura and the most exclusive one at the resort, making it ideal to became the Algarve's and Portugal's major venue for top international tournaments. Palmer, whose design company has planned some 500 layouts worldwide, compiled the Victoria course project, and Southern Golf, Europe's largest golf course builder, was awarded the construction contract.|Several man-made lakes provide hazards for the players and also serve as water reservoirs for irrigation.
Really enjoyed our round on this championship course. Excellent condition
Dominik L. Zuhorn 2018-12-23
Great course with complementary range balls and manual trolley... Lay out is good for golfers with different skill levels.
Was treated with a lot of happy smiles and friendly people. Course was in great condition and I enjoyed the golf.
Mr Matt Grant2018-10-12
Fantastic course, most definitely worth a visit, good test of golf but fair
This is an outstanding golf course which is very challenging as one would expect. Excellent condition even though played just after the Portuguese Masters where it obvioulsy takes some hard wear. For older club members who have lost a few yards or more from their driving the fairway carries make this a less enjoyable experience than ir deserves
Played twice two and three days after Portugal masters. Rough very challenging for amateurs and a few fairways much narrower than normal, but still hugely enjoyable.
Directions around the course was not great. The welcome information could be improved on arrival, Lockers , keys, towels etc. The course is fabulous and the staff really nice.
Really enjoyed our round at Victoria. Enjoyed the free range balls looked forward to a good round. The weather was good and the course was in great condition.
The course was in perfect condition as it was being prepared for the Masters. The rough was tough but playable. Great experience
Lovely course, played very difficult with the Portugal Masters coming up - would definitely play again.
Great experience and enjoyed thoroughly.
Great course as always
Course 9/10 Difficulty 9/10 Service 10/10 Food 10/10 One of the best courses in the area. A true golfing test with the course once again in a fantastic condition. Plenty of water and a must play course whilst in Vilamoura.
Stewart Eden 2018-05-14
Victoria was the last course we played out of 4. It was a good test of golf in the wind and the last 8 holes with water very much in play made scoring very difficult. The course was in very good condition and the staff were very friendly.
Even though the golf course was under preparation for the next golf season, it gave me a very pleasant experience and challenge. It seems like Arnold Palmer the designer thought of every level of golfers to be able to enjoy their game. The clubhouse and the restaurant had a very cozy atmosphere. It is also very good that the Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort is just right behind the golf course.''
Enjoyed playing this challenging golf course today. Pleased to have complimentary range balls and trolley to use. Course was in good condition. Thought it could definitely have done with a more detailed plan of each hole on the tee box as there are a lot of holes that need to be played a couple of times to get the lines and distances right. Particularly on the back nine!
The best welcome and practice facilities I've ever had/used, but not unsurprising as the course hosts the Portugese Open. The course was being prepared for the Open so there was quite a bit of prep work taking place, with ditches and gulleys for TV cameras being put in place, but the course is fantastic, a great layout and a good number of memorable holes...although the greens were quite slow, and did not always give the truest roll of the ball, which we put down to the fact they were being prepared for the PGA tour Open six weeks later. The course is visually stunning, but there are several really tough tee/approach shots, higher handicappers beware of the numerous 200+ yds carry over water, bushes, etc especially on the back nine and closing holes, this course is definitely one that suits the long straight hitters! Service and welcome were outstanding, a really nice touch that your buggies had personal welcome's with course planners, and a really nice touch that practice balls were free, and set up waiting for you.
It´s a modern championship course - well protected, flat, lots of space for potential spectators which als causes a few longer walks between holes.
What more can you say about this course. It's the best. The staff were most helpful and accommodating. Definitely will be playing there again.
Good. Found the course very difficult for our standard of golf.
The best course I’ve every played.. hard yet forgiving and fair..
Semirough nicht im besten zustand. Platz sonst perfekt. Super Fairway. Tolle schnelle Grüns.
Acacio do Carmo2019-02-13
Parcours à l’americaine. Entretien impeccable
Love that course !
Cheng Li Seng2019-01-07
Wonderful course. Challenging and interesting. Forgiving fairways but well-protected green. Free one hour of practise at the driving range before the game. A must try in Villamoura.
Great Course and make sure you have your A game its a challenge for any level of golfer
Staff were excellent - had a nice chat with them.
Beutyfull course and friendly staff. Greens an fairways in very good Condition. A few dry spots, well marked and with drop-zones. Very Nice.
Daniel GIBSON 2018-12-03
Slow round of golf no marshals to get people moving The condition was average and overall a little over priced
Excellent, would have liked to have seen greens as fast as Old course
Top and clearly Nr. 2 After Monte Rei
Mr Rune Dahlberg2018-11-17
The greens were suite slow and not in tip top shape
Always a pleasure to play, staff first class.
Superb course, great condition and good greens
We were greeted Very well from the the staff located in the Professional Shop, very helpful, course in great condition, ground staff very helpful , loved playing various picturesque holes, highly recommend
Due to slow playing we were just able to finish our round when starting at 1.10 o clock.
Ahsan Zahir Rizvi2018-10-23
Played here several times now and love the layout, but it looked very tired in places a lot of traffic been through the course in the last few months , making it look tired and bare around the course, one good thing though the greens were still in good shape which is more important than the other areas so was happy with the greens ???? .
David Perkins 2018-10-20
Superb course and a pleasure to play
Fantastic. Had a great day at Victoria
Great day. Great course
Wonderful golf course with some superb holes.Only negative was losing balls so easily just off the fairway and we were not the only ones as most of the groups in front of us were having the same problem. Maybe that's the price you pay for playing a few days after the Portugal Masters but overall it was a fantastic golfing experience.
UNBELIEVEABLE !!! an amazing course thoroughly enjoyed by all parties
Gunnar Blomdahl 2018-09-20
Excellent course, really enjoyed it , played well which obviously helps. A true test of golf, course was set up for European Tour in September with narrow fairways & penalising rough...
Excellent. Not one issue at all
Great golf course in good condition. Might be advisable to inform people booking that rough is being grown long and punishing in preparation for the Portuguese Masters in late September.
Stephen Hooker 2018-08-20
Fantastic - friendly , professional and efficient - thanks
Very pleased with course condition. Can see a number of fairways have been made narrower. Greens excellent. Only one very small concern. You had stated buggy fee would be €20 but we charged €25.
John Nightingale 2018-07-26
Ok course- back 9 more interesting
Jorge looked after me well in shop and I decided to play Victoria. I thought the course was generally in good condition. Obviously the semi rough is being changed and is GUR but I knew about that before.
Course was heavily sanded but the deal was half price, therefore fairly compensated. Great day out.
Amazing golf course in fantastic condition lovely staff
nice challenging course. well set out and organised.
Stunning course .hospitality great Millionaires golf .played pretty good 75yrold Brian
Very interesting layout with many bunkers and water on the second half. It was very windy, but we enjoyed play. Here you hopefully join sweden players in a flight .
Played as a 2 ball and the course moved at a good pace. The course was good and enjoyed the day.
Excellent course , facilities were superb . Friendly staff . Really enjoyed it . Will come again .
Very nice course.
Very nice course but very expensive
Very pleasant stay. Good, friendly staff, excellent breakfast
We really enjoyed playing Victoria this year. The course was in great condition
In a very good condition. Good course.
Stein Svennevik 2018-03-18
The tempo was slow and the last 5 holes we had to wait som e minutes.
Cracking course, unfortunately the weather was poor on the day. A lot of work currently taking place on course, will definitely play again
Tough course because long distance but fair because wide fairways, second 9 you have to play arround the water , perfect greens
We had not played the course for some years. We were very pleased that we decided to return. Both the course and the clubhouse facilities were great. Shame that heavy rain spoilt the enjoyment of the last few holes, but you cannot blame the course for that! Would recommend to anyone.
Everybody in our party enjoyed all the courses played.
Gerade sehr trocken, aber trotzdem gut gepflegt. Anspruchsvoll, super Clubhaus.
Lack of real spirit for me somehow, just long (but possible to score well), too yellow fairways compared to Pinhal/Old course and other courses in the area. Still very nice facility, club house and all around it and people working in (on that -high level).
Quick good service
Course in good condition, staff is very unfriendly to people who don't play there. My wife was not allowed to walk with me to the driving range.
Difficult course but a very enjoyable experience.
Another superb course. Only issue was drop in staff standards since we last played here and since takeover by Dom Pedro Golf. This is a serious issue given the cost of playing this course
The course was in very good condition and a good challenge, as always. The staff were both courteous and helpful.
Very nice course, excellent condition
Very Nice Course, Front and backnine with two different caracters, fair layout, Risk and Reward for competetive Players. Very enjoyable Play!
Nice.... in Good condition this Year!
This place is really becoming something rather special, course and staff really good.
We had lovely round had Old course, very friendly. Good service. Rent buggy, water included. Spend about 200 euro buggybar. Only problem is 4 euro for a can of beer. Way overpriced. But if you are thirsty you have to. Victoria, Defenitely not that friendly, and no water in buggy. Sorry for price you pay, at least little bit of water. And same for beer, but if you are thirsty you have to Tomorrow we play Millenium. We will see Thank you
We had have great pleasure ! Well organized
David Evans 2017-10-31
Great golf course and great service from all concerned at the course. A good test for all standards of golfer.
One of the finest tests of golf in the Algarve
Great course..great day
Excellent golf course, superb condition generally, excellent club house and facilities
Per Lokken 2017-10-19
Very good golf Course
Fantastic course and excellent service. We hope to be back!
Course was in excellent condition. It was very windy, so made a long course even harder. Pace of play was good. Staff as always were very nice and friendly. Buggy team and starter were all friendly. Food in the clubhouse was very good. Still prefer the Old Course but Victoria is a close second.
The course was generally in excellent condition, and the greens were reasonable and running at 9 on the stimp meter. The practice facilities are first class. The food was lovely and service from all of the staff was very good indeed.
Excellent layout and condition very good.
Always love playing Victoria although the greens were not very good but we didn't tee off until 14.40 so a lot of golfers had already played that day.
Favourite venue for our party. Course in excellent condition and provided a good challenge.
We played 2 days after the masters when everythingnwas being dismantled and the course was playing tough. Loved it for the experience alone, but it was tough!
Steve Brunton 2017-09-21
Very good and tough, just before the Masters
a very tough challenge but still a great experience
Neil Turner 2017-09-18
Victoria was being prepared for the Portuguese masters - it played long with the rough being allowed to grow - but it's a great championship golf course - a proper golfing test. Service is excellent including complimentary use of the driving range.

Erwin van der Stap2017-08-23
Superb course, superb service! Free range balls when playing, water in the buggy, very friendly staff
Cheapest buggies at €25. Challenging championship course but fair.
Abosolutely abysmal -disappointed and felt ripped off to pay a full high cost green fee on a course that was being prepared for the Portugal masters. On the day we played the greens were poor, covered in sand and the fairways were filled with sand, slit and saturated. I understand the course had been closed for 3 weeks prior to the day we played. Worst experience on our annual trip to Portugal...we should have been informed and given the option to play elsewhere or pay a considerably reduced green fee...this did not happen. It was better to play from the rough than the fairways.
Rather ordinary front nine but exceptional back nine making for a good experience. Courses well maintained.
Quite possibly the best course I have played in Vilamoura. The only slight let down was that we were there for an 8am tee off but the pro shop didn't open until 7.30am and the range wasn't ready until 7.45am, leaving us little time to practice. The facilities and course were top notch though, will be back next year.
Stunning course! Great greens and faiways! Great club house facilities
Excellent, loved it.
Tough course off the back tees, not helped by strong winds! The best of the Oceanica group and a fine layout
Very nice course, great to play a European Tour regular
You always love the courses where you play well and there is something about this course that gets my game going. We were fortunate to start at the 10th tee allowing us to take on the 12th and 14th before the afternoon breeze kicked in. This course is always well presented, but some the yellow teeing grounds were a little over played.
Fantastic service, expertly run ,nice touch with free range balls.
perfect - especially with pricing and services !! ( good price for buggy, free balls for driving and free of charge trolleys !!
Ian Green 2017-05-15
3rd time we have visited the course, and most peoples favourite. Views around the course are amazing, the course was in fantastic condition , again with plenty of challenges. All 5 courses we played were fantastic, hospitality and service at all 5 was superb, and I would recommend them to any golfer looking for courses to consider in the Algarve !!!
Excellent course. Helpful staff. Great facility, good catering. A must play
Ian Fisher 2017-05-08
Superb course & facilities! Very tough course, but very enjoyable!
Victoria was disappointing. Probably the worst condition I have seen the course in. Greens were slow and the general condition of fairway and rough were not up to Victoria standard. Even the course decoration is starting to look tired. Time for an upgrade.
Always a pleasure playing here - from being met in the car park by someone who takes your clubs to the clubhouse, to the friendly reception staff, the starter and people who load your clubs onto the buggy. Very classy, and makes things easy. Always enjoy the course - it was in great condition and another great day's golf.
Really top but had an extremely windy day there
I am sorry to say that Victoria was not in good condition when we played it as their was sand on the fairways and on the greens , this is my 5th time playing this course and I have to say I have never seen it in such bad condition. 5/10
Course was very wet when we played but is fantastic course
Great course but difficult. Golf starter was fantastic and very welcoming
Our first visit to Victoria. Very impressive operation and a warm welcome from everyone. Course is a good test of golf and was in very good condition. Would love to play it again without the windy weather!
best facilities of the week
Luxury golf, hand trolley offered, free practice ball, a little hard for women as the holes are long! I was pleased.
Very challenging, immaculate course. Some very good interesting holes
generally ok, maybe better maitenance (cutting dense leafs alongside fairways in places golfers cannot see due to horizons) would improve game and its pace...
Best course ever played on.
Quality everything about this course is first class from the tee to green. Yes. it's more expensive but by far the best experience.
Magnifique! les gens fort sympathiques, notre préféré de tous
Eu adoro jogar em Victoria. Undulating and bride fairways. Perfeito.
over the top! great course conditions, fast green, challenging!
Another favourite which never fails. Would struggle to find a negative comment. Staff always excellent.
Best course in Vilamoura and probably the best i have ever played, Everything first class from the time you arrive until you leave.
Ralph Keyes 2016-10-19
very enjoyable but condition of greens poor the first day we played. Better the second day.
Best course of the four, a joy to play. It was being prepared for the forthcoming tour event and again was not in the condition it should be for the green fee paid.
Very disappointed with its condition
Best course of the trip, service excellent and a must for next trip.
Course was in great shape and staff was friendly and efficient. Love this course and its people.
Excellent course very good set up, thoroughly enjoyed the course, although again the greens were very slow.
We love the challenge of Victoria especially the finishing holes.
Very professional club. Course amazing
Excellent for both courses
Miguel de Paiva Couceiro2016-07-18
Great course, have known it since the beginning. Staff most helpful and very kind.
Don't play when the course had maintenance! Bad greens and fairways. Not worth the money.
I love this course however it is very difficult for the holiday golfer. you need to be in the full of your health to enjoy the home stretch.
Very tough course but to be expected, as the Portuguese open is played here, we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, hope to come back and try to improve our pretty average scores !!
Steve White 2016-06-07
Good experience as in previous years
Excellent condition, a great day
Good to play a course that you see the pros play
Excellent as usual
Good condition all round
Kevin Steele 2016-05-22
Another fine course but difficult for handicap golfers; suggest putting the tees further forward.
As above, withstood the weather really well and thoroughly enjoyed our game.
Greens were very poor. Overall least value for money by a distance.
Always an enjoyable experience although the greens were very slow by normal standards
Always enjoy Victoria course.
Very impressive course, worth returning.
victoria is great and very professional. lots of heavy wear follwing tournament crowds but it will recover

Great course that is why we came back to it again :-)
Excellent course back nine very hard
Rene Olthof 2016-03-17
nice course, maybe a bit more difficult when there is wind
Penny Dawson 2016-02-26
Easy to use and courteous
Empfang und Starter sehr freundlich. Golfplatz in hervorragendem Zustand. Schwieriger Platz. Aus sportlicher Sicht ein must have!
Great Course in good condition, good test of golf and great facilities
This was the cream of the courses for us and we had a very enjoyable day. Again it was a little challenging but a great experience. Course knowledge helps a lot and for most of these we were playing for the first time but look forward to returning.
Great course, very good condition. Always a challenge off the back tees.
Sehr gut, auch beste Kommunikation durch deutsche Sprache an der Rezeption!
One of the best courses we have played in Portugal (played more than 40). Great design, beautiful And excellent maintenance. Fine service by staff.
This was the least enjoyable of the three. If fact we were sorry we chose this course to play . Too many people playing this course. We were held up from start to finish. There was no course ranger to ensure that people kept their correct position behind the group in front. In fact the group in front of us were so slow and inconsiderate that it spoiled our day. The course ranger's absents seems to me is a policy of the golf course management. My experience of the Victoria that day is that it's money grabbing and once they have it they do not ensure the customer has an enjoyable day. Never again will I ever consider playing the Victoria. Too expensive for what it is.
Fabulous course with splendid greens, thoroughly enjoyed our game
Golf course and service all good
Interessanter Platz, überhaupt die Back Nine. Allerdings das Semirough für Frauen-Handgelenke schwer zu bewältigen.
It rained before during and after. Course was waterlogged.
Due to previous days bad weather the rough on the Course was very severe. The group lost 10 golf balls
Due to previous days bad weather the rough on the Course was very severe. The group lost 10 golf balls
Overview Opened in 2004, the Oceânico Victoria Golf Course was designed by American golfing legend and seven-time Major winner Arnold Palmer at a cost of €18million and with an aim of being one of the finest golf complexes in Europe, and it is certainly up there with the best. Playing at 7,231 yards from the championship tees, the par 72 design hosted the World Cup the year following its inauguration and has, since the first playing of the event in 2007, accommodated the Portugal Masters and its four previous winners, Steve Webster, Alvaro Quiros, Lee Westwood and Richard Green. Comprising four par fives, four par threes and ten par fours – including the beastly 510-yard seventh and the incredibly challenging 463-yard 18th – officials have the choice of numerous tees with which to vary individual holes throughout the tournament days. There are four lakes at Oceânico Victoria, covering a total of 13 of the course’s 90 hectares, and the watery hazards come into play on seven holes: the aforementioned seventh, the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th. Martin Kaymer, the highest-ranked player on show this week, is the current holder of the course record having fired an incredible 11 under par 61 in the opening round of the first Portugal Masters back in 2007, a magnificent effort that consisted of 11 birdies including five in a row to finish. The course is in superb condition and with a forecast befitting of Portugal’s glorious reputation, with temperatures peaking in the late 20s and a testing breeze that should top out at around 15 mph, the stage is set for another memorable week in Vilamoura. Fairways The fairways at the Oceânico Victoria are generally fairly wide and receptive for the highly-skilled professional golfer, but with water coming into play on almost half the holes and an abundance of fairway bunkers ready to capitalise on errant drives, accuracy from the tee is imperative. There are doglegs left at the fourth, fifth and seventh holes that may encourage the draw, but above all players will be mainly searching for arrow-straight tee shots, with sometimes an iron providing the best chance of ideal positioning. Tournament Director, David Williams, said: “The fairways will be in very good condition, and although not particularly tight it will be more important to ensure hitting them with the rough a bit more penal this year. “There is now more definition to the rough, which has been extended by around 20 yards so wayward tee shots will be punished.” Greens The greens are one area of the course that have received some attention since last year’s event, as Williams also reflected. He said: “There has been a lot of work done on the course in general, especially on the greens, as in previous years they have been a little too soft and receptive, leading to some very low scoring, but they have been firmed up considerably and so will therefore play a lot harder. “This has also increased the importance of hitting as many fairways as possible to have a chance at landing the ball softly on the greens.” Generally large and undulating, and currently running at around 11’5” on the stimpmeter, the greens are L93 Bentgrass and should provide a telling test for even the most accomplished of the Tour’s putters on view this week. With broad fairways and non to punishing rough, a good putting week could prove the difference between first and second come Sunday. Key holes The par five 17th is widely regarded as the “signature hole” of the Oceânico Victoria course, proclaimed by the Oceânico group’s website as an “Arnold Palmer masterpiece”. Playing at 589 yards from the back tees, it is the longest par five on the course and is flanked down the right hand side by 12 water cascades and several fairway bunkers. After the tee shot things don’t get any easier either, with those brave enough to attempt the green in two facing a daunting approach to the water-fronted green that also happens to be the smallest on the course. A thorough and visually stunning examination of skill and course management. And while the 17th is described as a thing of beauty, defending champion, Australian Richard Green, believes the longest holes on the course are there for the taking. “I think the par fives are the key here to having a great score,” he said. “On the final day [last year] I remember birdieing three of the four par fives which helped me greatly and I was eight under par for the week on them which was almost half of my 18 under par winning total. So you can see how important they can be. “Of the other holes, I think the one that stands out is the seventh,” Green continued. “It is a really difficult par four at over 500 yards and although, if you play it well you do have a chance for birdie, you can also make some big numbers there if you are not careful. I was level par on that hole for the four rounds last year and I’d take that again this week, no question.” How the course played in 2010 In the 2010 Portugal Masters there were, in total, 44 eagles and an astonishing 1610 birdies, figures that are indicative of the scoring possibilities available at Oceânico Victoria. Only 20 of those 1610 birdies, however, came at the par four 18th, ranked the hardest hole at last year’s event. A 463-yard monster bordered the entire length by water on the left, and with plentiful fairway-bunkers littering the right side of the fairway, the finishing hole also normally plays into the Vilamoura wind. Undoubtedly a potential round-wrecker, as shown last year, when there were 108 bogeys and 42 double bogeys posted on it, so players will be more than happy to make par on it this week. “The 18th is a really good hole for the tournament to finish on,” said 2010 champion Green. “It’s not quite as long as the seventh, but it is still a long and demanding par four. The drive is key there to get into position but even if you do, you still face a tough second shot where you have to be careful of the water.” At the contrasting end of the spectrum, ranked 18th in the 2010 hole averages with 14 eagles and 172 birdies to its name, and only 24 scores over par on it all week, is the par five fifth which emerged from last year with a 4.53 shot average that will leave this week’s competitors licking their lips. Par on this hole will feel more like a bogey and will indisputably represent an opportunity missed. As Green mentioned, low scoring on the par fives is imperative for those looking to trouble the upper echelons of the leaderboard, with almost 40% of 2010’s eagles and birdies being yielded at the long third, fifth, 12th and 17th holes. Conclusions Despite the firming up of the greens and the extending of the rough the scoring should still be good this week in Portugal, with previous years’ winning totals numbering -18 (Green in 2010), -23 (Westwood in 2009), -19 (Quiros in 2008) and -25 (Webster in 2007). Accuracy off the tee and good putting on the undulating greens should go well rewarded, while players will also have to contend with Vilamoura’s perpetual gusts, as Williams summarises. “I think one of Oceânico Victoria’s challenges is its almost-constant breeze,” he said. “It’s not a gale, perhaps around 10 to 15 mph wind, so not calm, but not too windy either. But it always provides a nice challenge, and combined with firmer greens it should prove a test for this week’s world-class field.”
