First time at Ampalius , hard to give an honest assessment . It’s not bad but a little tired I think would be a fair comment . A bit lacking on reception staff for check in . Breakfast is acceptable just , as the hotel appears to be quiet but one toast machine that has seen better days so if busy I doubt you will be having any toast .

The Ampalius hotel is an upgraded Dom Pedro, but no equivalent to the Tivoli or Hilton.
The facilities are top notch, reception areas, cafe, restaurant, swimming pools, health/ spa centre (which includes indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym) bar, bedrooms and bathrooms.
The downsides would be the beds themselves. They are very small and uncomfortable. There is little support for a person sleeping in it.
The food is very nice, the staff are very friendly, the location is fantastic.
All in all, it is a perfect place to stay for a long weekend or short getaway, but for a week or longer stay, I would gladly pay the extra and upgrade to another hotel (simply for the beds, everything else is perfectly fine).

The service is always very friendly as usual. Only one minor issue: two rooms were facing the back side, hardly any ocean view and small balcony, even though I had a reservation for four rooms with ocean/ marina view. We were told that the rooms in back were in the same category as the ones facing the marina. I would suggest that one should not put the two in the same category since the view is definitely not the same. This issue was kindely resolved after 2 days when the 2 back rooms were switched with ocean/ marina rooms. For the rest everything was perfect: best deal in Vilamoura.
