Condition of the greens on the royal course compared to the ocean we're in terrible condition for those that take golf seriously.

Shockingly bad. Poor tees poor greens and very bad bunkers. The worst I have seen it. Not worth the money.

17 holes with narrow fairways between homes, parking lots, streets and one spectacular ocean par 3. Well manicured golf course but soggy slow greens. Some construction activity on a couple of holes, but workers are very respectful of the players. Oh yes, lets not forget crazy rules: women also have to wear collared shirts and you cannot play from the black "member" tees - chose forward yellows ir champion whites. Score cards do not have course rating, so you cannot calculate

Great customer experience. Really bad driving range. Course conditions: 7/10. Course experience: 7/10, disappointed by all the gardeners transiting / noise. Course: 8/10 (front 9 really boring, back 9 amazing)

Greens of both Roayl and Ocean were tyned sanded. Also fairway had several GUR areas. VdL should consider discounts in those circumstances. Also quality of bunkers varied a lot throughout the holes. Plus point: the renovated tee boxes on Royal are a big improvement.

The course was not in good condition- greens covered in massive pitch marks, etc. they also were sanding the tee boxes, so had to scrape them clean!

News - Golf in Portugal - Vale do lobo Ocean course
2021-07-15
We played yesterday at Vale do Lobo Ocean course on a hot day, but a sea breeze made it very pleasant.
We were 18 players of various nationalities, Portuguese, English, French, Swedish, Scottish and Irish, it is worth mentioning these last two nationalities.
The golf course was in perfect condition, with some greens that were fast and smooth but soft at the reception of the ball, a pleasure to play.
The course is long and has miscellaneous holes, the front nine being played in the north and west part of the resort and the back nine next to the Atlantic, which provides breath taking views and allows for some shots with the murmur of the sea in your ear. It is worth paying attention to the spectacular views on holes 11, 14 and 15. Very good.
The winner this day was Ian Godfrey with 38 points, followed by Fraser Graham with 33pt, and in 3rd 2 players with 30pt Jim Gillis and Peter Collins. Nearest the pin, on 13th, a narrow green well protected by deep bunkers was won by David Ziai, who placed the ball 3 meters from the flag.
We all return to our usual Restaurant in Vilamoura for some drinks and our free nibbles generously offered by João Filipe. Another day well spent.
Paul Richmond

Ocean is a nice course with lovely views and generally well planned. The greens were recently ''peeped'' and uneven. No sand in many bunkers and unfortunately something that greatly impairs the rating. Workers on course showed bad feeling that we as players want to make contact before we hit as personnel are in the risk zone.

Superb golf course and amazing views when you turn back towards the holes along by the sea. The only disappointing thing was the green keepers. They were cutting greens directly in front of us and we had to wait at least 6 - 7 minutes on 6 different holes before we could hit our approach shots. We were a 4 ball who teed off at 1.00pm so we didnt expect them at that hour of the day. The views over the ocean holes and a few challenging par 3's made it a pleasant experience though.

Fabulous golf course, but first time to play there, no map was provided, we weren’t told at the outset which course we were playing, nor were we told to get a token from reception before going to the practice range. Reception could point these out, but overall really enjoyed it

For the amount of money to play at Ocean (not to mention 50€ for a buggy) many of the ball washers were empty/dry and there were no towels at the ball washers.
Also we were told the beer buggy would be on the course, however in the heat of the day, we only had the beer buggy come by once!

Our transfer didn't arrive and when we telephoned Vale de Lobo they were unhelpful at first and tried to say it was the 3rd parties fault and they did not accept any responsibility. When we got to the course and went to reception the manager took over the complaint and apologised immediately and gave us a reduction on the electric trolleys. More training needed for reception staff at vale de lobo.

Quinta do Lago is a beautiful and well maintained course. However, I do not understand why they let so many people on the course. We had to wait long on every hole and it took us more than five and a halve hours to complete our round. That took away a lot of the pleasure
Quinta do Lago South Golf Course, favourite of many tour players, offers the possibility to hit the greens in regulation in several ways. The condition of the course was very disappointing with a lot of pitch marks and bare areas around the greens which were also very slow. We have played here before and it has always been very good but based on this experience it’s unlikely we would book here again, particularly when it’s one of the more expensive courses.

Friendly people, very hospitable, especially the marshal. He explained the course and allowed us to play together which is always a great pleasure.
As it is stated that this is one of the most beautiful courses in the Algarve (also on banners along the road). I was personally disappointed.
Especially the back nine I experienced them as moderate. I found the sister course Laranja more attractive and challenging. But that too is a personal opinion.

Quinta south is a great test of golf . We play there regularly but unfortunaltely the cost of golf in Portugal has become very expensive especially when you add in a buggy and practice balls . I think there should be more packages available especially when you only want to play 2 rounds The choise of coarse deals are very limited when you only have a short break .

4 rounds completed over 2 weeks, the staff are welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately some of the greens and parts of the fairways are in poor condition, possibly due to standing water following last years wild fires. We enjoyed our day on a difficult golf course at times. We did feel under pressure from the course marshal's who wanted us to play quicker. They said we had lost time on the group infront but they were a 2 ball to our 4 ball and teed off 20 minutes in front of is? Some of the fairways were a little bare in places.

Far too hot but you can’t control that unfortunately. However the golf should flow easily but this won’t happen when you are following a 5/6 ball which was holding the whole field up. This spoilt the experience ruined our game having to wait to take every shot - not nice in this heat.
